The Power of Thankfulness: Counting Our Blessings

It is difficult to express how grateful we feel to still be here, to still be serving these children, and to be supported and completely inspired by everyone involved with SEALKIDS. Our family advocates worked hard to help over 300 children and tutors/service providers from all around the country adapt to virtual learning in their locations. Many tutors helped us by reducing their rates so that we could continue to help these struggling children despite not being able to reach our planned fundraising goals. The rest of our staff and board had to pivot away from in-person fund raising events to creative online and virtual opportunities, like our summer SEALKIDS’ Squad Challenge and our webinar series.

I have been moved to tears as I have watched families, children and all the givers figure out a way to thrive and succeed in such choppy waters. As we approach Thanksgiving, we look back at the beautiful answers that have come in the face of adversity. I would never have asked for this virus to impact the world and I grieve for those that have been lost to it, but in a strange way I am grateful for what it has produced at SEALKIDS. We feel more grateful than ever because this year wasn’t easy.  It has made us treasure each other and the partnerships we have with families, donors, and service providers. It has also reminded us of how fortunate we are that while we are all working through COVID together, the men and women of Naval Special Warfare bear this burden AS WELL as protecting and defending our country at the same time. They continue to deploy. They continue to rescue the innocent. They continue to keep us safe by facing our enemies. They have and will always be here for us.

To the men and women of Naval Special Warfare, we are grateful for you. SEALKIDS is just a small way of thanking you for what your service and sacrifice provides our country and the world. Thank you for the privilege of helping your children. To SEALKIDS supporters and partners, we literally could not help these children without you. Thank you for helping these families who bear the burden and costs of our freedom and way of life. Thank you for showing up for them. We wish everyone a happy and safe Thanksgiving holiday.

Much love,

Suzanne and the SEALKIDS team
